Major General (retired) Elder Granger MD, FACP, FACPE, CMQ

Founder and CEO

Major General Granger is currently the President and CEO of THE 5Ps, LLC, a health care, education, and leadership consulting organization, Centennial, CO 80015, since August 6, 2009. Before he retired from the U.S. Army on July 1, 2009, MG Granger served as the Deputy Director and Program Executive Officer of the TRICARE Management Activity, Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Health Affairs), Washington, DC, from December 2005 to May 2009. In this role, he was the principal advisor to the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Health Affairs) on DOD health plan policy and performance.

In his role, leading MG Granger required establishing strong, value-based relationships with major insurers to serve as affiliates. These relationships necessitated clear guidelines for assessing and determining “best value.” A rigorous process was implemented to define precise requirements and criteria, ensuring these relationships were managed with measurable and accountable outcomes.

He oversaw the acquisition, operation, and integration of TRICARE/DOD’s managed care program within the Military Health System. Additionally, MG Granger led a staff of 1,800 in planning, budgeting, and executing a $22.5 Billion Defense Health Program and ensuring the effective and efficient provision of high-quality, accessible healthcare for 9.2 million Uniformed Service members, their families, retirees, and their families, and others located worldwide.

MG Granger has received numerous awards, decorations, and honors, including the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit with three oak leaf clusters, the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with four oak leaf clusters, and was honored by the National Association of Corporate Directors as a 2022 Top 100 Director.

He is board- certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the Board of Hematology and Oncology, Certified Physician Executive by the Certifying Commission in Medical Management, certified by the American College of Healthcare Executives, and Certified in Medical Quality by the American Board of Medical Quality. NACD- Certified Director, Certificate in Cybersecurity Oversight from Carnegie Mellon University, certified in Healthcare Compliance by HCCA, and certified Compliance Officer by AAPC.

His professional affiliations include Member of the National Association of Health Services Executives, National Medical Association, American Medical Association, the Interagency Institute for Federal Health Care Executives (Life Member) Governance Fellow, National Association of Corporate Directors, member and Fellow American College of Healthcare Executives, member, and laureate American College of Physicians, member (life member) and fellow of the American Association for Physician Leadership, member and fellow American College of Medical Quality, Board of Directors, Defense Logistic Health, Cigna, and Kaleo Pharmaceuticals. Meharry Medical College Institute of Computational Science and Data Analytics Advancement Council and University of Arkansas Medical Sciences Advancement Council.

He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Arkansas State University in 1976 and a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Arkansas School of Medicine in 1980. MG Granger completed a residency in Internal Medicine in 1983 and a fellowship in Hematology-Oncology in 1986 at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center, Aurora, Colorado. In 2009, MG Granger received an honorary Doctor of Science Degree from Meharry Medical College.

Ms. Brenda W. Granger

Founder

Ms. Brenda Granger is a seasoned educator and co-founder of THE 5Ps, LLC, with over four decades of experience in teaching, school leadership, and educational consulting. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, a Master’s degree in Education, and a Principal’s License. Throughout her career, she served as principal and administrator in diverse school systems across the U.S. and abroad, including Germany and Virginia. In addition to her extensive teaching and leadership roles, she has worked as a behavioral management consultant and was a volunteer trainer and advisor for several military and family readiness programs. Ms. Granger is a decorated civilian recipient of numerous Department of Defense and Army honors and is actively involved in multiple professional and service organizations. In 2024, she received an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from Philander Smith University. She is also a proud mother of two graduates of the Department of Defense Schools, a physician, and an attorney.
